More Exploration Applications Set Off Alarm Bells

It’s less than three months into the year and eco-justice organisations are once again sounding alarm bells about another fossil fuel project application for South Africa’s West Coast. The narrative is similar to that used to object to other exploration and drilling projects in the southern part of Block Deep-Water Orange Basin (DWOB) as well as Block 11B/12B on the South East Coast. In the latter case TotalEnergies EP South Africa S.A.S has withdrawn its application for environmental authorisation (EA) (Ref 12/4/013 PR), submitted in support of its production right application.
