Growing Number of South African Hope Spots Celebrated

Did you know that there are seven South African Hope Spots? Six of these – False Bay, the Cape Whale Coast, Knysna, Plettenberg Bay, Algoa Bay, and Aliwal Shoal – were designated in 2014, while Maputaland, a transboundary Hope Spot spanning both South Africa and Mozambique, was designated in 2024. Recently, Mission Blue founder, Dr Sylvia Earle, a legendary marine biologist, was in South Africa for a workshop attended by Hope Spot Champions representing each of the Hope Spots. The workshop was facilitated by the Two Oceans Aquarium.
