West Coast Ship Wreck Clean Up Continues

The bulk carrier, MV Ultra Galaxy, which grounded and then broke up near Doringbaai on the West Coast has caused untold hassles for the South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA). Cleanup operations have been ongoing but despite efforts to contain the large amount of heavy fuel oil, much of it has escaped from the wreck and has ended up on beaches. This has also created problems for the fishing industry and for the environment generally as well as for the many oil drenched African Penguins which have had to be rescued.
