Indigenous Peoples Reach Unanimous Agreement on Defining the Just Transition

Subsistence fishermen make use of traditional stone fish kraals in the pools directly below the Vanderkloof dam wall. the use of these kraals has been one of several contentious issues raised in meetings between dam stakeholders involved in a new experimental fishery for the area.

Nearly 100 Indigenous leaders from the seven socio-cultural regions of the world have reached unanimous agreement on defining a Just Transition with respect to impacted or potentially impacted Indigenous Peoples. They have also provided principles and protocols to eliminate harm from renewable energy and ‘green’ development.
