The newly appointed Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Dr Dion George from the Democratic Alliance, is a surprise appointment nuanced against political jostling in the background of the Government of National Unity (GNU) negotiations. The Minister must be congratulated and be given the opportunity to assess the policy environment, current and immediate challenges, besides getting to grips with a department which needs to be energised. He is also the first opposition party Ministerial appointment to the fisheries portfolio.
