The Republic of Maldives pole & line skipjack tuna fishery is important to South Africa from which it secures a supply of sustainably sourced tuna. The fishery has been certified by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) for 12 years and is now a major global exporter. It does face challenges however in its quest to secure its future.
