Remember the February 2022 story about how a whistleblower revealed Eyethu Fisheries was allegedly a B-BBEE front for the Spanish multinational fishing giant, Iberconsa? What came out of it were allegations that it was lending millions to acquire one of their vessels and taking all the fish and profits. There were also suggestions that the Fisheries Department was turning a blind eye, but “should investigate the loan account.” Fast forward to 2024, and a similar picture is emerging. This time the story is even stranger….
