Anomalies in the Hake Value Chain

The case of the Elke M and several other vessels supposedly part of Iberconsa’s fleet, provides an opportunity to consider the hake value chain from retail value at point of sale in international markets to the economic value received by Iberconsa’s South African HDST right holders’ associates. As this by default also impacts the rate of economic return to South Africa’s Gross Domestic Product, the objective is to inspire a comprehensive study into the value chain for all South African HDST Fishery products, to ensure maximum economic advantage not just for the GDP but also South African citizens as the primary producers.
