New Institute a First for South Africa, the Fishing Industry and Small-scale Fishers

A historical strategic partnership between leading corporations in the South African fishing industry and academia, was launched last week. This was made possible thanks to the Fisheries Economic Development Research Advisory and Training Institute NPC (FEDRATI) and the Cape Peninsula University of Technology.  

FEDRATI aims to advance the Fisheries Economy holistically through interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research, training and advisory services (including among others, mentorship and coaching). It is the first institutional collaboration between the South African fishing industry and academia on fisheries economic development. Moreover, the partnership leverages on the strengths of academia and industry to enhance economic growth in the sector.
