AI Technology Early Warning System Launched In Saldanha Bay ADZ

An innovative pilot project using artificial intelligence (AI) technology to alert mussel growers about the presence of whales and other mammals in the Saldanha Bay Aquaculture Development Zone (ADZ), was recently launched.

Vodacom South Africa has been working with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) South Africa to pilot solutions to safeguard marine mammals against becoming entangled in the offshore infrastructure of rope-grown mussel farms. The organisation is investing R4 million into the pilot project over the next three years.
