Drones, Other Devices for Recreational Angling Still Not Allowed

Recreational anglers are reminded that bait carrying drones and other similar devices, are still banned.

According to the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, there have been misleading messages on social media. This follows a Supreme Court of Appeal hearing in which the court granted leave to appeal to an applicant at the beginning of May.

The DFFE says on this basis recreational fishers have been urged, via social media, to ignore the ban and continue using their drones to drop bait. The ban has been in place since 24 February 2022.
