There has been a significant increase in reports of poaching, mostly related to abalone. Compared to only three reported cases in 2020/21, in 2021/22 a total of 297 cases were reported. This is attributed to the opening up of an environmental crime hotline to marine-related incidents according to the 2021/22 National Environmental Compliance and Enforcement Report.
