‘Narco-Drones’ are the Newest Form of Drug Trafficking

A joint operation between Crime Intelligence and The Hawks led to the arrest of three men and the confiscation of 672kg of cocaine that was hidden behind false wooden boards on a truck headed for Cape Town.

In the past week the South African press has reported on another massive concaine bust (672kg), this time with a street value of some R400 million. The increasingly sophisticated methods used to move drugs internationally was also highlighted this month when Spanish police authorities seized autonomous underwater vehicles, each capable of transporting around 200 kilograms of drugs. It’s not the first time police authorities have caught an uncrewed vessel carrying illicit substances.
