Farm to Plate. The Debate Around Growing Octopus in Captivity

If you can’t fish it, you can try grow it. Which is what Spanish fishing group, Nueva Pescanova, plans to do with octopus, reports Reuters. But the sceptics out there say there are ethical concerns, while commercial fishermen are worried they will lose out on price even though the quality of the farmed product will not be as good.

Nueva Pescanova, which has tentacles that extend to established businesses in South Africa, Namibia and Mozambique, says building the world’s first octopus farm will be a “global milestone”.
