Meeting the Deadline. Will FRAP 2021 Deliver What’s Expected – or Not?

There is no doubt that the protracted fishing rights allocation process (FRAP) 2020 – then 2021 – has kept the commercial fishing industry on tenterhooks for the past two years. It has been a rough ride in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic that has produced both shocking and excellent results across the South African economy.

As 2021 draws to a close, we look behind us to what this year has delivered and what there is to look forward to. The application form process closed on 10 December and in its wake is commentary from various quarters that is both positive and negative.
