The trade union representing thousands of workers in the commercial fishing industry, is baffled by the response of the Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) Commission to the two complaints it lodged this year. These complaints relate to the black-owned shareholding and restriction of voting rights in Oceana Group Ltd.

Food and Allied Workers Union (FAWU) has now elevated the matter to government level. This week a letter was sent to the Ministers of the Department of Trade and Industry, the Department of Employment and Labour, and Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, requesting intervention.

The same letter went to the Commissioner (Acting) of the B-BBEE Commission, Ms Zodwa Ntuli, and her colleagues Ms Moiponde Kgaboesele, the Executive Manager Investigations and Enforcement, and Mr Madidimalo Ramare, Case Management and Administration.

FAWU believes that the B-BBEE Commission has not done enough investigation into the complaints that it has lodged.
