West coast rock lobster small-scale fishers are unhappy about the recent announcement of the total allowable catch (TAC) for the 2021/22 season. This is a third less of what they were allowed to take last year, and they feel victimised. They are vowing mass action if the situation isn’t remedied urgently.
The notice from the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) informs that a TAC of 600 tons has been determined for the 2021/22 fishing season. This is a 28.3% reduction from the previous fishing season (2020/2021) of 837 tons.
