The deep-sea hake trawl sector is between a rock and a hard place. On the one hand, there is every likelihood that the sector will have its global total allowable catch (TAC) reduced in favour of new entrants and existing smaller right holders in the new round of long term right allocations. On the other hand, wage negotiations for 2021/22 have deadlocked. The first scenario outcome is a relative unknown, the second has a deadline attached to it. The sea-going crews and processing plant staff are stuck in the middle.
