Yesterday’s briefing to the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment provided some interesting insight into how the Minister views the fishing industry and the fishing right allocation process (FRAP) 2021.
It was a long meeting but not only to update the Committee about the fishing industry. It was also to do with legislative amendments, the preparedness of the Department for the UNFCCC COP26 conference, and details around the multi-party delegation to the UNFCCC COP26 conference.
Towards the end of the presentation on FRAP, the Minister addressed the important question about whether DFFE was going to be able to run, a clean, accountable, legally defensible process that will take forward its mandate of transformation and inclusivity in the industry.
