Freshwater fishes such as the South African yellow fish, play a crucial role in keeping rivers, lakes, wetlands and oceans healthy by supporting a complex food web.

The National Freshwater (Inland) Wild Capture Fisheries Policy has been approved by the South African Cabinet for implementation.
