An updated report of the economic impact of the hake deep sea trawl fishery is in the public domain. Independent economists, Genesis Analytics, completed it on behalf of the South Africa Deep Sea Trawling Industry Association (SADSTIA). It provides some interesting information about the actual cost of fishing and asset utilisation, and the ripple effect that reduced quotas will have on investment in the industry, and ultimately employment.
