The Phase 1 Social-Economic Impact Assessment System (SEIAS) for a few of the fishing sectors that are up for renewal in FRAP 2020/21, were published for public comment a few weeks ago. The sectors published were the hake deepsea; hake longline; demersal shark; and the small pelagic (sardine and anchovy). The fishing industry and it’s stakeholders were granted an extension to 10 June for comment. MYLES MINNAAR unpacks this topic, especially its relevance to the small pelagics sector.
