Namibia’s Minister of fisheries and Marine Resources won’t be rushed to allocate fishing rights. The matter, ongoing since 2018 when more than 5000 applications were submitted for scrutiny, is still not finalised. But he says this will happen “soon” and has committed himself to the end of March.
The Minister, Dr Albert Kawana, was addressing the fishing industry in Swakopmund recently where he said: “The nation must just hold on.”
“We are in the process of clarifying information that aims to benefit Namibians. I am confident that I will be able to make a full public statement on this issue by the end of March.”
Unfortunately, this is something the industry has heard before but this time Kawana blames the delay on the COVID-19 pandemic.
