More Sustainably Caught Fish Equals More Profit

The Chagos Islands, a group of seven atolls comprising more than 60 islands in the Indian Ocean have finally been handed back to Mauritius after being ceded to Britain in 1965.

Aggregate fishing effort in Africa’s waters should be cut by about 50% to reach a profit-maximising equilibrium that protects both fish stocks and profits. Why this should be the case is explained in the MSC’s 2021 Insights Briefing document.
