Half the largest inshore sub-tidal mussel beds and almost all mussel, red bait and fish stocks on Durban’s Vetch’s Reef have been destroyed.
The Oceanographic Research Institute (ORI) has confirmed this in a damning report it has published.
Titled Biodiversity Specialist Study of Vetch’s Pier: Sessile Reef and Ichthyofaunal Biodiversity, the report is in response to the Save Vetch’s Association (SVA) persistent insistence that theThekwini Municipality and Transnet face up to their responsibilities.
