Red Tide Causes Mass Mortalities of Rock Lobster

Fishermen help remove some of the lobster and other species that washed up on beaches near Elands Bay in 2021.

Tons of rock lobster have walked out of the ocean at Elands Bay on the Cape west coast this weekend, and it seems it is not just lobster.

According to the South African Department of Environmental Affairs, Forestry and Fisheries, several other marine species have also washed up on the beaches. They include octopus, white mussels and some fish species.
