The next three months are critical for South Africa’s commercial chokka squid (L.Reynaudii) industry which says 2020 has been a difficult year that began with “the worst December since before 2007”. Low catches, the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns and protocols, economic challenges and loss of expertise, are just some of the issues it has faced.
