A new literary offering is a book about KwaZulu Natal’s subsistence fishers’ isolation from existing fishing legislation.
The environmental justice organisation, South Durban Community Environmental Alliance (SDCEA), and the KwaZulu Natal Fisher’s Forum have published a soft copy of this book.
The book is titled Cast Out: The Systematic Exclusion of the KwaZulu-Natal Subsistence Fishers from the Fishing Rights Regime in South Africa.
It is written and compiled by researchers Jackie Sunder and Kira Erwin.
The book builds on a presentation made to the parliamentary portfolio committee on fisheries in early November. The presentation was about the plight of thousands of KZN Indian subsistence fishers and other poor line fishers generally.
