Research Vessel Sinks Near Gough Island

A fishing research vessel with a team of South African scientists and others on board, has sunk off Gough Island. It apparently struck a rock.

The Belize-registered MFV Geo Searcher was abandoned yesterday after it became apparent that it was taking on water. It had 62 crew members on board, including two islanders in the role of Fisheries Observers.
