Marine Tilapia Incubator Project for Eastern Cape

The Mozambique tilapia (Oreochromis mossambicus) is a member of the cichlid and tilapia family.

The Eastern Cape government sees the development of the aquaculture industry as an opportunity for the province. So too does Public Works Minister, Patricia de Lille, who gazetted a list of new strategic infrastructure projects in July. One of the projects is a marine tilapia incubator farm on the Wild Coast.

The marine tilapia industry incubator project is just one of four projects identified by the Eastern Cape Rural Development Agency to drive growth in the rural areas of the province. The details were documented in an investment booklet published in January 2020.

According to a project overview, the location for the farm has been identified as Amathole District, Mnquma Municipality within the Wild Coast in the Eastern Cape, about 60 km northeast of East London.
