Fishing Communities Lose, Oil Spill Impact Starts to Bite

Thousands turned out to protest against the finding of dozens of dead dolphins believed to have been impacted by the oil spill.

The livelihoods of Mauritian fishermen will be severely impacted in the wake of the massive oil spill off Mauritius in August. Japan has been asked to foot the bill.

The country has been reeling from the after-effects of the spill. This has included the deaths of nearly four dozen electra dolphins, mass strike action, and the sinking of a support tug with loss of life last week.

The African Advisory Group is calling for the fair treatment of the island’s small-scale fishermen and communities.
