Shark nets and drum lines will be reinstalled along the KwaZulu Natal coastline as soon as the beaches are opened to the public. It is hoped they will eventually be replaced by new technology such as the SharkSafe Barrier.

The shark nets were removed just prior to the COVID-19 lockdown in late March. Just in time for the bumper sardine run which this year attracted plenty of sharks.
