Rare Elephant Seal Beaching Excites Glentana Residents

Southern elephant seals are not common visitors to South Africa’s shores. Yet in the last few months several have arrived on beaches in the western Cape.

The latest arrival was on 26 June according to the Stranded Marine Animal Rescue Team (S.M.A.R.T.). A resident spotted the elephant seal on the beach at Glentana near Mossel Bay.
