The activist behind saving Durban’s Vetch’s Pier and beach from development, has written a book.

Durbanites and ex-Durbanites alike, will be most interested to read a new book about the history of the Durban Paddle Ski Club and the battle to save Vetch’s Pier from development.

Appropriately titled Little Boats and Big Fish… And Big Snakes Too, it has been written by Johnny Vassilaros. He’s the activist that took on Mike Sutcliff, the contraversial former Durban city manager and his cronies at eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality.

They visualised a multimillion-rand waterfront development including a new iconic hotel at the mouth of the harbour. Little consideration was given to the environment or to the impact this would have on the fishing community or residents of Durban.
