Great white shark populations are in decline. They are a protected species in South Africa but they are migratory and travel vast distances.

Drone footage of a large White shark circling surfers in Plettenberg Bay this week, gave the NSRI cause to raise the alarm. Further south Great Whites have been declining in numbers, driven away by apex predators.

There has been an unusually high number of reported White shark sightings and close encounters along the Southern Cape coastline in the past few weeks.

These shark sightings have been reported close in shore along the Plettenberg Bay coastline and between Mossel Bay and Jeffreys Bay.
