A Proposal. How to Revive the Marine Inshore Resources

It IS possible to resuscitate our inshore resources but considerable change needs to take place within the management of the fisheries and with the support of scientists, commercial, recreational and small-scale fishers. This is the second of a two-part series.

Priority must be collectively given to the inshore resources of line fish, abalone (perlemoen) and spiny rock lobster (crayfish), in the light of the dramatic collapse of so many of these species. This has been due to uncontrolled exploitation, poor right allocations, and ineffective resource general management, all adding up to the simple result of their being over-fished.
