A total of 53 Eastern Cape rural coastal communities received 15-year long term fishing rights recently. The occasion was also to launch the first provincial ‘Oceans Economy Masterplan.’
The 53 communities represent more than 4000 fishermen. Another 25 Eastern Cape community cooperatives and at least another 1000 fishermen, are still to receive their rights.
