UPDATE. Aftershocks of Namibia ‘Fishrot’ Scandal

Namibians have been shocked at the revelation of a huge ‘Fishrot’ corruption scandal in the commercial fishing industry. It is alleged some N$150 million was paid to several people at the expense of poor communities. The timing coincided with the country’s elections on 27 November.

President Hage Geingob has retained his title for the South West Africa People’s Organisations (SWAPO). He insists in an article in the Namibian newspaper that corruption is not systemic in Namibia.

At a cabinet meeting he told parliamentarians that “the actions of a few corrupt officials have tainted the name of our country.”
