LATEST. Suspension Lifted On Octopus Fishing

Octopus fishers will be pleased to hear today that Environment, Forestry and Fisheries Minister, Barbara Creecy, has lifted the temporary suspension on octopus fishing in False Bay.

The lifting of the ban on the octopus fishery is effective from 15 November 2019 and comes with conditions.

The ban was implemented at the end of June 2019 after a petition was raised to object to whale entanglements in octopus fishing gear. At the time the minister said she would be consulting with the scientific community. This has now happened.
