Growing salmon is not for the faint of heart as South African producers will testify. So far none have been particularly successful. Therefore, one hopes that the homework has been done for the recently announced new salmon farming project for Lesotho.
Singapore-based impact investing asset management firm, 8F Asset Management, is putting its money behind its portfolio company, Pure Salmon. The company, in partnership with the Lesotho National Development Corporation, is establishing a USD250 million salmon farm in the Lesotho highland’s Butha-Buthe region. It is envisaged the farm will produce 20000 mt of Atlantic salmon per year.
