Official Declaration. SA Has 20 New MPAs

South Africa's Marine Protected Areas. The target is to increase the country's protected estate by 0.5% per annum and achieve about 28% of land and sea under protection by 2036.

While most countries declare one marine protected area at a time, South Africa announced this week it had declared 20 new marine protected areas bringing the total to 42.
