The Southern Namibian fishing port of Lüderitz is an odd place which carries the weight of great expectations. A Bavarian suburb transported from the beginning of the last century. A “drinking town with a fishing problem”. And a growth node in Namibia’s post independence industrialisation drive.
The town of roughly 25000 inhabitants offers access to traditionally rich fishing grounds but is still struggling due to poor catches in recent years and the downsides of its remote location.
