UPDATE: KZN Small-scale Fisheries Sector Launched

The ABALOBI App started with helping small-scale fishermen get fresh their fish to market. It now offers extended services.

Twenty-nine small-scale fishing co-operatives in KwaZulu Natal (KZN) have so far been registered with another eight to follow.

According to Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Minister, Senzeni Zokwana, who launched the KZN Small-scale Fisheries Sector, in the province last week, 2184 small-scale fishers have met all the requirements and criteria.

The Small-scale Fishing Regulations stipulate that small-scale fishing communities have to have a minimum of 20 recognised small-scale fishers to form a co-operative. Therefore the remaining communities that do not meet the minimum requirements will join other recognised fishers to form a virtual small-scale fishing community.
