Small-scale fishers in KwaZulu Natal get their day today when the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Senzeni Zokwana, officially launches the small-scale fisheries sector.
Coastal fishing communities have for several months been preparing for the roll-out of the small-scale fisheries sector. They have undergone verification and training in how to manage the business of a co-operative.
KZN is the second province after Northern Cape where co-operatives have been finalised. This affects 2184 fishers throughout the province operating in 29 registered cooperatives which will receive 15-year rights.
