The governments of South Africa and Namibia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will ensure the cooperation of both countries in all fishery matters.
The MoU was signed by fisheries Ministers Senzeni Zokwana and his Namibian counterpart, Bernard Essau this week.
South Africa, Namibia and Angola share one of the most productive Benguela Current Large Marine Ecosystems (BCLME). The collaboration of the three countries is historic where international partners have funded several significant projects in the BCLME region. The collaboration was later formalised through Benguela Current Commission and now ratified into a Convention.
South Africa and Namibia share a border and therefore there is transboundary of fishing species in both countries, co-management between the two countries has always been important.
