Life in Namibia’s fishing industry is currently hectic. Players old and new are applying for fishing rights for hake, horse mackerel, monk, large pelagic species, rock lobster, deep sea crab, mullet and Cape fur seals. Several 20-year-old fishing rights are expiring. By law, these rights cannot simply be renewed. They must apply alongside new applicants, all applications being judged on their own merits.
