Hout Bay Misery. Violence After Poacher Reportedly Shot

The body of a crayfish poacher believed to have been shot dead by an anti-poaching patrol unit which had intercepted the vessel on its return to Hout Bay harbour, Cape Town, has still not been found according to the National Sea Rescue Institute which for the past two days has conducted a sea and helicopter search for the man.

The fisherman, Deurick van Blerk, was allegedly aboard the rubber duck in the company of two other men when it was shot at while they were fishing off Cape Point nature reserve. According to media reports there are “multiple bullet holes through the engine and pontoons.” The two men were arrested.
