The advent of GPS and fish finders took fishing to a new level. Now remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS) or drones open a whole new opportunity to cast further and make that catch of a lifetime. It even enables those with absolutely no fishing skills to be armchair fishermen.
While RPAS are becoming popular fishing accessories, underwater drones — developed for infrastructure, marine and shipping survey, commercial, salvage and military use, shipwreck discovery and under water exploration — have caught the attention of fishermen internationally.
Like the RPAS these underwater drones take the lure to the prey. With live video display they allow fishermen to watch the fish grab the bait before they reel in their catch. Being able to dive to 150 metres they can be used by spear fishermen to search for fish before they go hunting.
