The South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) has announced an exemption for seafarers with sea service on board a fishing vessel obtained on or before 23 July 2013. This relates to new manning requirements as per the Merchant Shipping Regulations which will come into effect on July 1 this year at the first safety survey.
