It is June. Winter is setting in, temperatures are dropping and this is the time when KwaZulu-Natal anticipates the curtain to rise on the sardine run. This is a natural ocean spectacular which wows tens of thousands of people annually.

Dubbed the Greatest Shoal on Earth it is the migration or run of millions of sardines (Sardinops sagax) or Southern African Pilchard, from Cape Agulhas to Durban and beyond. Accompanied by thousands of frenzied predators including humans who flock to the coast to scoop them up in nets and buckets.
